Employment period: 1/2003 – 9/2014 (Adriaenssen BVBA), 10/2014 – 10/2015 (Rubus VOF)
Function: Contracting work (consultancy, development, architecture, …)
Management, development Mobile Team Lead (at iCapps) 2014/01 – 2015/10

Tom took up the role of Mobile Team Lead, managing a team of 16 mobile developers (mostly iOS and Android based). Tom's tasks included presales tracks, defining standards, and providing technical team guidance, growing the team and adopting better project and practices. While mostly a managerial role, development is still part of the daily job, building tools, templates and participating in project work.

Development, management Bolero (for iCapps) 2013/09 – 2014/12

Bolero is an online trading platform based in Belgium. Their existing platform based on Flex technology needed a makeover. Part of this makeover were 2 iOS apps (one for iPhone and one for iPad).

Tom was the lead developer for the mobile client side development of these apps (consuming web services developed by another party). Tom architected the apps from the ground up trying to share code between two codebases (both moving at different release speeds). Tom managed a team of 6 developers, making sure we were able to reach our development deadline while keeping code quality up to needed standards for a project of this size.

The iPhone app was released in June 2014, the iPad version in fall 2014.

Used technologies: iOS, CocoaPods, Kiwi, custom frameworks

Development Know the signs (for Mojuice BVBA) 2013/06

Tom was brought in to provide some last minute code fixes and adjustments, as well as a reskinning of an existing iPad app for promotional purposes (no app store deployment). Changes were made to both the iPad frontend code as to the PHP backend code to cater for the desired change requests.

Front-end architecture, development Kinepolis Mobile Ticketing (for iPASoftware) 2012/06 – 2015/10

The current ticketing solution used at Kinepolis is Flex based which means that it is not usable on mobile devices. Mobile Ticketing was developed to provide a way to purchase cinema tickets through your mobile device.

Tom was responsible for the architecture and development for the front-end of the new mobile web app. This front-end talked to a provided API layer which gave access to the back-end. The serverside frontend code was just a conversion layer passing JSON structures to the frontend clientside code running in the mobile browsers.

Much effort was taken to provide a similar experience on a broad range of mobile devices.

Used technologies: ASP.Net MVC, knockout.js, custom API, IIS, iRAD.SPA

Development Tablemanager Pro (for ManageByApps) 2013/07 – 2013/09

ManageByApps has an iPad app called TableManager which is used as a reservation system for tables at a restaurant. The current app is standalone, but there's demand for a multiuser/multidevice version.

TableManager Pro is the same app as TableManager but in a client/server environment. The data is no longer stored locally but remote. A partial rewrite was necessary to make the app asynchronous for data access.

Used technologies: iOS 6, Windows Azure

Development, architecture Pioneer AR (subcontracted) 2013/05

Pioneer wanted an app to showcase their new in-car entertainment systems. The user could download a marker image which he would place on the dashboard in his car, and would be using the iPhone app to overlay several types of entertainment systems so that you could "experience them in the car".

Screenshots of the augmented reality scene could be saved and shared.

Architecture and development of the backend solution for a demo iPhone application. The application connects an iPhone to a V3100 security device. The backend solution was developed using the .Net Framework 4 and used custom/proprietary XTralis libraries to connect to the device and pass the information along to the iPhone. The demo application allowed a user to manually trigger an alarm on the connected V3100 device using the iPhone. The iPhone application receives those alarms and is able to show a livestream of the camera that triggered the alarm, or a picture of the camera at the time when the alarm was triggered.

Tom worked closely together with the developer creating the iPhone application to make the experience as smooth as possible, given the short development timeframe of one week (a deadline which was reached in time).

Used technologies: .Net Framework 4, WCF, iPhone.

Development, architecture, team lead Univeg WMS2 (Usys2) (subcontract for iPAsoftware BVBA) 2008/09 – 2010/05

Architecture of the new version of the custom Warehouse Management System used by the logistics department of Univeg. Several worldwide warehouses are (or will be) using this system. The system was built using several key technologies: the business logic was contained in a set of WCF services, which were then consumed by several client applications. The desktop client (used to manage each warehouse) was developed using WPF. The scanner console clients (used by workers holding handscanners connected through a telnet session to the console application) was developed as a .Net console application. There was also a backend to handle asynchronous printing of business process documents and another backend to handle the interfacing with several client systems.

Tom was not only responsible for the overall technical architecture, he was also a technical team leader to guide the rest of the development team, working closely with the project manager and the client.
